Today, something different…

I’m not here today to talk you to death… I’m here to share pictures and to give you a taste of where I’ve been roaming the past sixish weeks. So I’ll keep the commentary to a minimum – as much as I can…

Just two caveats before we jump in:

I really don’t love walking around taking pictures, especially as I’m trying to fit in and snapping photos of my lunch or at the boulangerie on the corner doesn’t really help me blend with the locals.

I’ve sacrificed my pride for you, friends, so if the lens is a bit greasy at times, you get what you get.

Annnd… I’m just never going to do it justice. For every picture I’ve shared here, I’ve deleted five, or just didn’t bother. It calls to mind John Mayer’s 3×5 – especially when he says, “it brought me back to life.”

On y va!

Most of the pictures below are from the Marché de Capucins, which is awesome! I was fortunate enough to land a few blocks for there in the Airbnb I found after the lodging we no longer speak of.

My biggest takeaway from the markets, and the general rhythm of foraging for food here, is that I wasn’t so weird afterall. I was never one to do big grocery hauls like I was prepping for the plague.

I never know what I’m going to be craving beyond the next couple of days, and anytime I’ve tried to plan too far ahead, I’ve been left cleaning the mushy disappointment of forgotten meal plans out of the vegetable drawer.

I remember how much I loved going to different shops (the bakery, the butcher, the market) for each thing  the first time I visited New York – even then, I felt like that was the way I wanted to live

It’s like that here, and the quality and variety of the food is beyond what I could have imagined… which actually isn’t great for my increasingly concerning cheese problem.

The Streets of Bordeaux

Below I’ve dropped images from my pretty much daily walks, often done with a silly grin on my face.

I usually have my headphones in, so I thought it’d be nice to share a playlist that you can listen to to get the vibe while you look through the images.

Enjoying a toast to my new place. I got this bottle of crémant on a bike wine tour with my friend Nic, who renently came to town.

And, finally… These guys just made me smile.

I was walking behind them for a couple of blocks.

There is something very different here in the way kids like this are seen.

Earlier in the week I’d been on the tram – it’s an honor system where you have to tap your fare at the door once you get on. The guy sitting across from me had forgotten to do so and handed his entire wallet across several people to a black teen standing near the door.

The kid tapped it, and handed it back the way it had come. It was so normal I almost cried.
